Young people are the backbone of our society, and their skills development is crucial for creating a sustainable and prosperous future. The world is witnessing a significant shift in the job market, with the rise of automation and artificial intelligence. Traditional jobs are being replaced by new ones that require different skill sets. It is essential to equip the youth with adaptable and future-focused skills that can help them thrive in this rapidly changing landscape.

Through various skills acquisition programs organized yearly to mark the WYSD, we considered it most appropriate to train the boys at the Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, Ikeja Lagos as part of our activities for this year. We believe that through our empowerment initiatives we would influence a positive mindset; thereby fostering self-development towards national transformation.

A two weeks vocational training was carried out at the centre with facilitators from the field of arts and crafts, photography , videography and content creation. The boys were taught various skills including the basics of photography, video editing, soap making and perfume production.

It was an exciting experience for the boys having to learn new skills and it was very fulfilling to see them motivated to become self empowered and to contribute positively to their environment.
