From 28 September to 7 October 2026, Yes We Are Winning (YWAW) Foundation successfully carried out Project 555, an educational outreach initiative designed to support indigent, out-of-school, and underperforming pupils through mentorship, learning resources, and essential school materials.
The initiative reflects the Foundation’s commitment to creating opportunities for children to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of their circumstances.
Reaching Students Where Support Is Needed Most
Project 555 reached over 80 students across schools in Lagos State, extending support to new beneficiaries while maintaining its commitment to existing ones.
Through the outreach, students received essential educational materials, including over 200 books, 150 packs of writing materials, 18 school uniforms, 41 pairs of shoes, and 38 pairs of socks. These resources were provided to help address some of the everyday challenges that prevent children from participating fully in their education.
Beyond the distribution of materials, the initiative focused on understanding each school’s needs and identifying students who required additional academic and personal support.
Five Days of Engagement, Mentorship and Impact
The project featured a series of activities designed to ensure that assistance reached the right students and that the impact extended beyond material donations.
The team visited schools to identify beneficiaries, assess their needs, and engage school principals, head teachers, teachers, and counsellors. Parents and guardians were also invited to participate in the initiative.
Mentorship sessions and parental sensitisation formed an important part of the outreach, emphasising the importance of education and the role families and communities play in supporting children’s development.
Further visits to Agboyi Primary School and Community Junior School, Alapere, provided opportunities for additional engagement and guidance.
As part of the Foundation’s 10th anniversary celebration, interviews were also conducted with the project financier, a representative of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Foundation’s Executive Director.
These engagements highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, families, donors, and community organisations in improving children’s access to learning opportunities.
The Power of Collective Support
The success of Project 555 was strengthened by the involvement of volunteers, teachers, parents, school representatives, and financiers who contributed to making the outreach possible.
Their participation demonstrated how collective action can help provide practical educational resources to children who need them. The increased involvement of community stakeholders also strengthened the project’s reach and created opportunities for deeper engagement with beneficiaries and their families.
Although the project encountered challenges, including the underestimation of some budget requirements, the experience provided valuable lessons for planning future outreaches and managing resources more effectively.
Looking Ahead: Expanding the Impact
YWAW Foundation remains committed to extending its reach to more communities and improving the long-term impact of its educational initiatives.
Future plans include establishing representatives in different communities, strengthening the monitoring of beneficiaries’ progress, increasing active team and board membership, and attracting more donors and supporters.
The Foundation recognises that supporting children’s education goes beyond providing school materials. It also involves mentorship, encouragement, family engagement, and a sustained commitment to their development.
Project 555 2026 was another step towards that goal, reaffirming the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and win.
Through continued collaboration and community support, YWAW Foundation looks forward to reaching more children and creating lasting change through education.
