The International Day of the Boy Child is celebrated every year on May 16th. This day is dedicated to celebrating the rights and well-being of boys around the world. It’s a day to highlight the unique challenges and issues that boys face and promote their health, education and social development.

Commemorating this day at the Special Correctional Center for Boys Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, was an amazing experience for us as a foundation. Putting smiles on the faces of these young lad and mentoring them is fulfilling. It was really exciting to see the boys at the center basked in the euphoria of the celebrations.

As a common belief in our society, boys are often taught to suppress their emotions, which can lead to long-term negative effects on their mental health. The teaching which focused on working towards greatness with the help of God, brought so much enlightenment, renewed hope and encouragement to these young boys.

At the end of the discussion, some of them shared the lesson learnt and it was satisfying to hear them express hope in leading better lives. I have no doubts that so many of them will inculcate winning lifestyles, and make right decisions towards a better future.

As stated in our mantra, “WECEEEYou”. We encouraged the boys to care of one another, be dedicated to their studies; inculcate discipline and focus on achieving the goal of becoming better men and patriotic citizens.
