THE NAKEDNESS OF BROTHER JETHRO

THE NAKEDNESS OF BROTHER JETHRO

Distressed by the weight of his afflictions and frequent disappointments, brother Jethro, a devout follower of ‘The Way’, stripped naked before the bishop of his soul in a heart-rending confession that would later bathe his mind in the streams of his mercy.

In a cry of anguish, he opens up the burdens that were hitherto locked up in his heart alone. He spoke out perhaps to dismiss the anxiety that has mounted severe pressure on his mind and emotions. He said in a naked prayer, “…it looks like I am beginning to give in to pressure; and am being squeezed in every way by the reason of my challenges.”

He continued, …”It seems to me that the promises I have anchored on is making no sense again! I’ve got more questions than answers, and depression is weighing me down. I don’t feel like praying but I want to pray. And even if I struggle to pray, will the answers come? And if it doesn’t meet my expectations, how long shall my answers be outstanding? God, please talk to me!, he alarmed!

Like brother Jethro, everyone of us desperately need to have someone who is trust worthy and is able to share our pains and help us. Yes, someone who is able to understand the deep issues that is etched on the table of our heart! Someone to whom we feel vulnerable and we are not ashamed to bare our minds on issues that troubles us.

Naked PrayersThe truth is, no matter how intimate, and amiable a friend is, he or she cannot be as dependable and sacrificial like the one who fashioned our being, and sustains our life. His love and compassion is like no other.

A devout and wise King made an experiential statement that amazes me always, and I consider it very true. He said, ” If I say the darkness will cover me, and the night will be the only light around me, Even the darkness is not dark to You and conceals nothing from You. For you form my innermost parts…” (Psalm 139)

Having felt the pains of disappointments even from loved ones, and having suffered heartbreaks from those who seemed to care, I cannot but advise that there’s no need to brood over past failures and be locked up in the feelings of distrust and isolation.

Likewise, there’s no need hide from the obvious, covering yourself with darkness and obscurity before the one who formed you in your mother’s womb, and to whom your life is bare. Just like I said in my article WHO WORRY HELP?,  learn to give your fears to God and turn your worries into prayers.

In the words of T.D Jakes, “There’s no need for sanctimonious misrepresentation of who we are! We no longer need to live under the strain of continual camouflage. Neither flagrant or flamboyant, we are naked before Him in the same sense that a man sprawl’s naked on the operating table before a surgeon…whether the doctor finds good or evil, what is there is there, and the man’s comfort lies on the conviction that the surgeon possesses the wherewithal to restore order to any area that may be in disarray.”

If we would feel neither embarrassed or boastful when we are stacked naked before a surgeon who would attempt to restore us to health, how come we easily think and act like we can hide in obscurity to the extent that we shut God out of our life issues, and continue to struggle with ourselves? I think when an equipment is faulty, the best help we can get is from the manufacturer and not a copycat.

The truth is, there is a certain tightness needed to cause faith to be secreted. Your situation might be a tool in God’s hand to provoke a miracle that would endear you to His loving disposition. Therefore, don’t hide from him, rather strip yourself naked before Him in humility and devotion, like brother Jethro.

Fervent PrayersDiscard what you don’t need so you can activate what you need. Get rid of your deceit, self-righteousness, self-pity, and aggrandizement. Slip the spirit of heaviness off your shoulders and let the cool waters of God’s promises rinse the residue of your hurtful pasts. Strip yourself to nothing but prayers, let your request be lifted to God in passionate supplication and unwavering faith.

God knows who you are more than the knowledge you have of yourself. He cares far more than you think or imagine. An adage in my local tongue says, “A dead man does not hide from those who would dress him.” Therefore, the only way you can dress up for God, like brother Jethro, is to lie before Him as a naked offering at the alter of naked prayer!

Brother Jethro realized that God cannot cleanse what he did not expose, therefore, he bared his heart in naked prayers. He now stands in the rains of his grace to declare thus, “I know that God is faithful. I also do know that His plans for those who trust Him are good and not evil, to give them an expected end. This is a promise of God that will never change!”

My friend, there’s no need to try and hide behind a finger, it’s useless to continue to dwell in the past and bottle up anger against God. Speak up and dismiss it! Strip naked before the giver and sustainer of your life. He has a plan -He’s going to turn the mess into a miracle. You are winning! Yes, we are winning!

THE MANY BLESSINGS OF AN UNGRATEFUL MAN

THE MANY BLESSINGS OF AN UNGRATEFUL MAN

An ungrateful man would think there’s actually nothing to be thankful for. Whereas there are many blessings he can be grateful for even though he often forgets that for him to even think of this means his senses are at work which of course is something to be grateful for.

Ordinarily, one would have considered the realities on ground before reckoning that there’s really nothing to celebrate or be thankful for; and that’s common sense, at least it makes sense! The rationale behind an ungrateful act is first the obvious absence of the good things of life.

But come to think of it, there are so many physically fit men and women out there who are out of their senses: some are roaming the streets while others are chained down at psychiatric homes. Many of them are wealthy, and probably would have been more grateful if they were thinking straight like you.

What are you thankful for?You need to consider reasons why you should be grateful in spite of your present circumstance. Your ingratitude might stem from the obvious: your are broke; out of job; lost a loved one, or sick. Whatever the unfavorable condition you’re in, one reason not to be ungrateful is that you can even complain is that you can even complain about some predicaments. Therefore, one reason to be grateful for is the fact that you’re even thinking you don’t have a reason to.

Those who are dead would have loved be alive to manage even a worst situation than yours if they had the chance to live. They would have preferred to stay alive and go through the temporary difficulties because they know that when there’s life hope can survive it.

What are you thankful for? As long as there’s life, you should appreciate where you are and be content with who you are. And as you strive to achieve greater things in life, you should do so with thankfulness to God who makes all things beautiful in His time.

There is at least one reason to be grateful for each day. Look within, look around, consider and remember the blessings that surrounds you. You are definitely better than millions of people in this world. Yes, I may not understand what you are passing through. Of course I know it is not easy, and that is the reason you think you are justify to curse God for your ‘miserable’ life.

The life you consider not worth living is a delight of some people who do not even have a chance to read an article like this. At least you have a phone, laptop, and internet to surf the web. Some don’t even know what that is. Have you considered if you had to pay for the air you breathe even in your poverty. You have been out of job for the most part of this year, yet you have never for once received a bill for the air you breathe. Isn’t that a good reason to be grateful?

You had a great aspiration for this year, and now it is ending and yet you have no good result to show for all your efforts and hustles. Yea, right! I know it has been difficult to sustain your family, and you have a pilled up electricity bill, and the electricity company have even disconnected your power. What if God disconnected the air you breathe because you are unable to pay for it?

I know you are not happy, but you should be grateful that you survived the temptation to commit suicide, some couldn’t. You should be thankful that you survived the hardship because same consumed many people, and made others miserable! My friend, consider, count your many blessings and be grateful. I can go on and on to prove to you that you are very inconsiderate to think you don’t have reason to be grateful

Before his death, a father wrote his son a letter whose words impacted deeply upon the young son. He wrote, “God means us to delight in his world. It isn’t necessary to know botany or zoology or biology in order to enjoy the manifold life of nature. Just observe. And remember. And compare. And be always looking to God with thankfulness and worship for having placed you in such a delightful corner of the universe as the planet Earth.”*

I'm grateful for?Dear friend, thinkless about how bad it has been. Rather, sing into the wind song of gratitude. Even if it is out of tune, don’t care, just sing aloud in appreciation to your maker and sustainer. Count your many blessings and name them one by one, and you will see that God indeed has been faithful to you.

What are you grateful for? Make a list. There are probably many things you didn’t get done, and many things you have left to do before the year winds up. But, rather than whine, isn’t it appropriate to relax, and just thank God for the things, even the little things that you know He brought you through. Think, Thank and be grateful.

Like I noted in my article, CHORUS OF COMPLAINT: AN EVER-TRENDING TRACK, Stop the chorus of complains; sing: ‘For God has triumphed gloriously…”( Ex15:1). Create the change through Praise. Be optimistic, be the change! You’re winning! Yes, we are winning!

WHEN NONSENSE MAKES SENSE…

WHEN NONSENSE MAKES SENSE…

The “follow” feature on the social media like Twitter, instagram and Facebook etc. has spurred me to put pen to paper on a prevailing phenomenon which I will describe as when nonsense makes sense.

To follow someone on Twitter for instance, simply means subscribing to their tweets or messages so you can receive them and read them. So if you chose to follow a friend, you would have access to his life activities except things he chose not to share.

Therefore, If you are following a saddist or an immoral person for instance, you should be exposed to his ideologies and way of life. Of course you can chose to accept or refuse his way of life but definitely you have got possibilities of being influenced. Likewise, following a moral or intellectual friend provides a platform for you to learn and be influenced by his disposition.

A statement credited to a foremost and divinely inspired writer, Saint Paul,  in his letters to Timothy, a young and vibrant leader of a Christian group is of note: He counsels, “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22.

Timothy was probably at the time between the ages of thirty and forty years. Like many other youths, he also stands the chance of derailing from the godly lifestyle he embraced. Therefore, Paul urged him to run away from all those ill-regulated passions to which youth is peculiarly liable, such as intemperance, peer pressure, lust, arrogance, petulance, ambition, nudity, pornography, levity, vehemence of action, wilfulness, crime, fraud, sensuality, and the likes.

Rather, Timothy is to continue to walk in the path of godliness and “follow” after  righteousness, faith, charity, peace. This means that just as you follow a friend, and you are most probably influenced by his disposition, you should as a matter of priority and importance, be a follower of virtues of integrity, righteousness (opposite of iniquity), love of God and people, justice, morality and godly contentment, and peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Flee youthful lustSadly, the reverse is very true today. Many youths, flee righteousness and morality, and every good works, instead they follow after and pursue youthful lusts, perversions, sensuality, self indulgence, worldly pleasures, violence, and all manner of inhumanity with them that run devil’s errands. When what is normal becomes abnormal and vice-versa, and when what makes sense becomes nonsense, then it calls for serious concerns. This is a reflection of a perverted life, in which nonsense makes sense!

The things that interests us or appeal to our sense of reasoning are the mundain things of the world which feeds our passion and gratified our self. Self is at the core of most of our activities, and as such little or no reference is made to God in our dispositions. The more we follow that which is evil, the faster and the further we shall flee from that which is good.

The best that some do is to make a mention of God in form of empty piousness and nitpicking. For some, the name of God or Christ has become a slang, such as “Jees” (abridged word for Jesus), “Oh my God or gush!” to mention a few. God’s name is a sure tool in the hands of the comedians to create the exhilarating jokes. But to a depraved mind, it makes sense!

Some say words like, “Baba Gode” (Father God), or the “Guy up there” to refer to God. The funniest jokes are those that reveals the activities of Pastors and Churches. To some, this makes more ribs-cracking jokes and sense. Even DSTV, a cable TV, deletes and mutes the utterance of the name, “God’, like they do censor the “F**k” word. It is ridiculous, isn’t it? That the creation would disregard the creator in such an ungracious and profane manner.

Sensual, ungodly and immoral secular artists most of whom have been initiated into the Illuminati and Church of Satan are the role models of many of our youths. These worshippers of Satan gets more followership on the social media than those who promote morality. Godliness is fast becoming unfashionable; unpopular and primitive. And what should makes sense is nonsense.

Social vicesMany who are Christians would get so much excited at sensual and senseless songs, and even promote the egregious lifestyles of such artist; yet they frown at God’s word and criticize and persecute those who live righteously. “And according as they did not think good to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind to practise unseemly things.” Rom 1:28.

Since many youths have abandoned sincere personal devotion to God, and have chosen to feed from the crumbs that falls from Men of God, and have consequently inculcated a shallow and debased lifestyles, it would be difficult to discern the truth from lies. To many, all Pastors and preachers are false; all churches are fake, Christianity is boring, Jesus is a slang, God is only for mention.

The religion of “I know myself and God knows my heart” is an excuse to cover up what is not. Some would  say words like, “the way I chose to worship God is up to me; I don’t care who that hurts or helps. As long as God sees the heart. I don’t have to be responsible to anyone.” That’s not true! On the contrary, if the spirit of God dwells in you, your life would reflect the nature and character of God; anything short of this is self-righteousness.

With Self at the core of a man’s life, God is only for a mention, as such he’s passive.. This is what it means to follow after self and unfollow after godliness. This is sadly the lifestyles of many who celebrate homosexuality and lesbianism; they praise those who promote immorality and corruption.

Unfortunately, those who themselves are depraved, and who through their songs and lifestyles corrupt the minds of listeners gets more “likes” on social media than a moral or religious post or message. The Youtube is full of videos of youth promoting nudity and weird and senseless things. Sadly, their pages gets more ‘likes’ and ‘followers’ than this who promote morality.

Follow righteousnessA selfie posts on the Instagram would get more likes than a moral or religious quote or image. This is the perversion of morality! This is the age when nonsense now make sense!

Gladly, in every corrupt and ungodly society, God always reserves a remnant of people who in spite of the threat to life, would follow after and pursue righteousness and the fear of God. Even if you are challenged by peer pressure, and the society leaves you with no choice than to compromise, don’t give in.

In my article, THE BEAUTY OF UNDOING YOUR MISTAKES.I share about the possibility of undoing your mistakes and living a better life. Never be comfortable with mediocrity. Create, Maintain and Improve on your life. When nonsense makes sense, you follow righteousness. You’re winning! Yes, we are winning!

“MY SEXUAL ORDEAL WITH A BEAST…”

“MY SEXUAL ORDEAL WITH A BEAST…”

September 17th 1990, I was 13; young, vibrant and full of hopes and aspirations. My name is Cassandra and this is the tale of my sexual ordeal with a beast.

My parents planed to travel on another business trip, and so I was taken to my uncle’s place in the south eastern part of the country. I was supposed to stay with him for a week.

My first night was great. But the next morning my aunty had received a call that her goods had being ceased by the customs in Lagos and her attention was urgently needed. Aunty and Kate, my neice took the next available flight to Lagos the next day. This was the beginning of my ordeal.

Rape and victimFor good 6 nights; my uncle rapped me!… I felt used, abused and abandoned. There was no one around to help me; and I was naive, I didn’t have the chance to share my experience with anyone. I kept hoping that my parents or even my aunty would return the next day so I could narrate my ordeal to them, and be free from my uncle’s harrasments.

A week , then another one, but my parents hadn’t returned. Why would my parents abandon me with this beast?, I often queried. After a month, news finally reached that my parents had died in a car crash on their way back form their trip. I was devastated, and thus my hope was shattered! What could be worst, I wept uncontrollably.

This sexual ordeal continued until I was 19. My uncle didn’t stop his sexual abuse, and he threatened to kill me if I ever told his anyone. Every moment his wife was away, I would be the toy in the hands of this beast!  I got pregnant twice and he drove me to doctors far away from our home for D and C. I had wished I died in the process so I could be free from my diabolical uncle. He was so smart to cover up every chance I had to open up. I felt doomed!

As a result, my growing up was difficult and lonely. I couldn’t stand the sight of men; they irritated me to my bone. I could literally throw up at their sight. I was bitter and disgusted with uncle and wife, and I swore never to step foot into his house again when I have an opportunity to escape.

In spite of this, I struggled to survive. My life was appalling but I was determined to excel in my career and make my parents happy in their grave (if that was possible). I resolved that the only thing that would give me consolation is to be educated and empowered so that I would not end up useless.

I met people who counselled me; I had different therapy sessions so I got better and better. After all I’m supposed to marry a man in the end. Because of my painful experiences, I couldn’t find strength in any friendship even though I tried severally. I couldn’t get myself to trust anyone.

However, my search for happiness led me to Christ. It was then I realized that Christ was actually waiting at the door of my heart so he could come him and heal my broken heart. I recall that I had many chances to run to him for help while I was going through the bitter ordeals, but I jettisoned. I though he never cared about me!

I wish I had taken one of those chances, perhaps I wouldn’t have gone so deep in the troubled waters. I thought the best thing was to keep the secret to myself, and try to suppress my feelings. But I was wrong! Anyway, finally, I found the savior; I found life!

My life was renewed and my dignity restored. I had to leant to forgive; trust me, it wasn’t easy but I did forgave my uncle and all those who had willfully maltreated me. Then peace and health was restored to me, and i was determined to live a life that would influence others positively.

By the way, I Came out best graduating student in my school as the only female mechanical engineering student in my department. How did it happen? Yes, even in the midst of my hopelessness and struggles, I was determined not to let my situation hinder me from my life aspirations, and God helped me!

Celebrate womenToday, I celebrate those women who are alive to tell their stories. They are survivors; they weathered the storm while many gave in and even hated living.  But what about those girls, ladies or women who have died during child birth, during the D and Cs, after rape. Or what about the infants that never got a chance to see the light of the day?

Today, celebrate every pregnant woman around you!!! They are going through a lot. Therefore, every mother is worthy of adoration. Husbands should love and cherish their wives; they are eternal treasures.

Like I noted in my previous article, “MY JOURNEY INTO DEFILEMENT”- A SAD TALE OF SHARON.To all victims who have been forcefully defiled, let go; and let God. The journey or healing process might be tough and bumpy but its always worth it in the end.

Whatever your case, be a winner! We are winning. Yes we are winning!

THE ‘NOISEMAKERS’ HAVE BEEN SILENCED!

THE ‘NOISEMAKERS’ HAVE BEEN SILENCED!

“The noisemakers have been silenced!” This was what I thought after I had stayed for 3 days without any power outage or the sound of generators.

Recommended by my driver, I had checked into Greenfield hotel, in Assyllum-down area of Accra; a 3 star hotel located in a descent and serene location at the city center of the capital city of Ghana.

It was only 72 hours after that I heard the sound of a generator for the very first time. I was later to learn that the prepaid card for the meter was exhausted, which was the reason for the brief power outage that necessitated the use of the generator for about 30 mins.

The uninterrupted power supply during my stay in Accra and the amazing testimonial about the monumental growth in the power situation in Ghana as compared to that of my country, Nigeria, compelled me to write this piece.

While taking a walk in the evening, in the serene and well-lighted streets, I had observed few sound-proof generators especially in companies but the amazing thing was that those generators looked unused. Until three days after when there was a brief power outage in  my hotel, I never knew the generators works.

I had asked my driver about the power situation of the state and entusiatially he said that electricity was constant and that by evening all street lights would be turned on giving illumination to the streets and environment to foster security. One of my friends also added that the consumers have enjoyed value for their money, especially with the use of the prepaid meter.

Coming out from a poor power generation and inadequate supply that plagued the country in the past years, Ghana can now boast of providing regular and affordable electricity to her growing consumers.

This was made possible by diversifying the electricity generation mix through the development of other hydro power and renewable energy sources for which the country has huge potential, and of course, expanding the prepaid metering system to include all public and private institutions, which was before now had contributed to the challenge of funding the sector.

Trust me, you can’t imagine how serene and peaceful it is to live in an environment where you never have to worry about noise and air pollution. This was what I enjoyed in Accra. One of the source of our stress as Lagosians is both noise and air pollution. Of course, transportation and traffic is another palaver we face daily. And all these has a way of depleting our health and affecting our relationships.

No ElectricityI can’t remember when last we have heard uninterrupted power for three days in Lagos. By the way, Whenever we experience an uninterrupted power supply, say, for 12 hours, we usually get agitated and worried that something was wrong or like we normally make jokes, we would say,  ‘maybe the officer on duty has slept off and forgot to turn off our own switch for the purpose of load shedding’. It’s ridiculous isn’t it? but we are used to that, unfortunately!

The noise of generators at our offices during the day and the terribly noise from the “I pass my neighbour” generators makers one’s night sleepless. You run on diesel generators at work for about 8 hours, you then get into heavy traffic on your way home and when you get home late night you have to turn on the generator in order to have some relieve from terrible heat.

it is really disheartening what we go through by reason of the poor and epileptic power supply in the country. All efforts to provide Nigerians affordable, reliable and safe electricity have been elusive from one respective government to another.
Today, Nigeria can only boast of about 7,000 MW of electricity for over 170m citizens. It is not only ridiculous but very saddening that millions of Nigerians are left with the option of providing their own power by the use of power generators.

The power situation in Nigeria has been a major cause of concern for decades. From one respective administration to the other we have always hoped for an improved power sector but we have always been met with disappointments at the end.

It is no news that the epileptic Power supply throughout the nation has ampered the growth of industries as well as hindered the development of the country in all its ramifications. In addition to this, electric Tariff continues to increase without corresponding improvement in supply. Worst still, citizens are made to pay exorbitant bills for power they never consumed.

Discos complain of lack of support from Government

Discos cries fouls

Furthermore, the Generation companies (GenCos) and Distribution companies (DisCos) have always complained about not giving enough support from the Federal government to perform effectively. Hence, they are not supplying to consumers enough electricity.

Truth is, Nigerians deserve to enjoy constant and secure power supply that would guarantee not just economic growth but also personal comfort and health and productivity.

When shall we celebrate constant and reliable power in Nigeria? when will generators rest from constant use ? When will our environment be serene and free from noise pollutions that deprives us of quality health and productivity? When will these noisemakers be silenced!?

Plenty promises from Government and yet we see very little results. Several suggestions and policies have been made by experts and stakeholders on how to subdue this beast that has plagued our dear country for many years, yet non of these have availed to anything

Power facility vadalsThe spate of sabotage and vandalism is worrisome. Those who heck living from importing generators into the country have done all possible to frustrate every efforts at providing uninterrupted power to enduring Nigerians. I sincerely do hope our leaders would be patriotic and decisive enough to allow the same revolution in the telecommunications industry to be implemented in the power sector.

The Fedreal government should allow every states to generate and transmit their own power which would be enjoyed by their citizens. And in a situation where a state can generate more than her needs, they should be allowed to provide electricity to other states at a cost thereby serving as a source of revenue generation.

Private companies who can generate and transmit power from any environmentally friendly sources should be allowed to run with little or no federal intervention except in oversight functions and enactment of policies that would help support their growth. This will inturn bring competitiveness into the sector like we currently witness in the telecommunication sector.

The Government should also take decisive steps to gradually and strategically dissuade the importation of power generators into the country. Instead, more companies should be encourage to provide alternative power supplies (such as sola, geothermal, wind sources etc), to Nigerians at affordable prices.

Also, the government should begin to promote and provide subsidies for the use of solar panels as an alternative source of  power generation.  Solar energy is environmentally friendly and very effective too. I hope these noisemakers are silenced soonest!

Lastly, the satisfaction and productivity of Nigerian consumers should be of priority to electricity marketing companies. Nigerians should not be taking for fools. It is time to provide affordable and secure electricity to the citizens who deserve to enjoy the dividends of our democracy.

Nigeria is a great country. We are winning! Yes, we are winning!
