SUMMARY:International Women’s Day 2019: #Balancingforbetter
DESCRIPTION:It was a feeling of overwhelming happiness and joyful excitement for the SS3 students of the Falomo Senior Secondary\, Ikoyi-Lagos\, Nigeria during a symposium jointly organized by Welti Foundation and The Yes\, We Are Winning Foundation to commemorate International Women’s Day 2019. \n  \n      \nThe theme for this year’s Commemoration event is Sexual Abuse\, The Role of the Male Folks\, with a hashtag Balance for better (#balanceforbetter). Our guest\, Miss. Adebara Adekunbi (Founder\, Piece of My Heart Foundation)\, spoke extensively on the definition of Sexual Assault\, Sex\, rape and gender equality. She emphaized on the need for the male folk to be disciplined and avoid taking advantage of their female counterpart. \nShe lamented how terribly our society has been badly affected by the rising Sexual molestation and assaults that occur on a daily basis\, especially among young adolescents. She further advised that your “YES” or “NO” must be balanced with your physical action. As a lady\, you shouldn’t be saying NO to Sexual approach or harassment and still let your guards down\, as this may be seen as affirmative for the opposite sex. \nFurthermore\, she said that even though some ladies may dress indecently\, yet this doesn’t justify that such a person should be forced to have sex (rape). She also mentioned that an average of 2 among every 10 boys have also experienced molestation\, which means both genders are capable of being a victim. \n                         \nFor more images of the event\, click  https://www.facebook.com/pg/yeswearewinning/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2712766082074185&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARAqA21pY075JIZCRPS9hc_r_p3bLSo5F5A4mkFDpAqCp75g7JRUegOKN3BVSKi97ikEuex6Gqv1TltS4B9X_GBtmF9Vm75WraDj8va8VuFkPPqoFDXDq9tEDXr5zhR4URGmmCh8I1muAJnJwF_aUg7di4HKcSRB-DpdEDxs-VT3Cp2fuaJllalW9OhwsAgda2329BJnej7zrtG_WFxvr8vlodt3-8EEMgg2KFtjXLfuHdH6sFkB3TMg15khFN4uJpYi63jQSt5Y-c13wWIq0chQsA7GQ5BQAwT2Elr68VutAVe_T_aSZdDvVYzJ1hldgz7B2GAnLi98k_0yLK5OBA8tF0SGcmJHe1i7XEC8KItpoB4Ayn8VGK3xRNO3mYojJNxYF-ci6P1BE_GiVyXlEIdn0pw8JyNuNYdBHTOebBCcIodXSaK0xcgSNqLWemuq2vKLhYnkf4xyNdKRrYYR8TCvPw&__tn__=-UC-R \n\n \nInternational Women’s Day Symposium \n\nFinally\, she encouraged the students to speak out and seek for help in case of any sexual molestation or abuse. She warned that perpetrators must not be left unpunished. She also reminded the students that often times\, those who perpetrate such evil actions are those so close to us. Therefore\, she challenged everyone to be vigilant and learn self-defense at all times. \nThe theme for the 2019 International Women’s Day also emphasizes gender equality. Women are challenged to rise up to leadership positions in every sector just as their male counterparts. The day advocates for a society where both men and women can compete favorably in career\, science\, and leadership positions. \nThe need for girls and women to pursue their life aspirations in whatever choice of career\, and never to be intimidated by the male folks was also discussed. students were happy to have learnt something new\, they all solemnly committed to leading moral lives and promised to become responsible citizens. \nThe Executive Director of  Women Economic And Leadership Transformation Initiative (Welti foundation)\, Ifeoma Okonji\,  emphasize the need to continue to speak against sexual abuse\, and the need for the male counterpart to protect the girls and women\, thereby balancing for better. \nThe YWAW team present were Afonrinwo Babs ‘Deji\, Olaniyan Olubunmi and Olatunde Kikelomo. \nOn behalf of all of us\, we wish all women a happy International Women’s Day. \nYes\, We Are Winning. \n#balancingforbetter \n#yeswearewinning

SUMMARY:YWAW Members Get-Together
DESCRIPTION:Some members of the YWAW Foundation had a get-to-gether at an eatery in Ogudu GRA\, Lagos-Nigeria to celebrate the certification of the group as NGO. They also reviewed past projected and strategized for upcoming projects and events. \nThe meeting which had 30 members in attendance was very informative. The newly elected Executive members were introduced and charged to keep the flag flying and work towards the globalization of the Yes\, we are winning initiatives. \nMembers were also encouraged to visit the website regularly and endeavour to promote the initiative both through the social media and through living true to the ideology of the foundation\, which is “YWAW\, inculcating a winning culture\, promoting excellence.” \nIt was a happy and fruitful deliberations as we also welcomed new volunteers and strengthened connections. We made resolutions to increase our commitment to social services and programs that would continue to promote a winning lifestyle. \nYes\, we are winning!

SUMMARY:A Visit to the Elderly People's Home
DESCRIPTION:Through inspirational songs\, and messages from both young and old\, the old and feeble grandmas and grandpas were encouraged to make the best use of their age and status\, since there is no age without its beauty\, and there is no end to making positive impacts as long as there is life. They were urged to make good use of their remaining days because there is beauty in their wrinkles. \nIt was heart-rending to watch the old men and women sing beautiful songs that extols the goodness of God\, and reminds them of a beautiful future in paradise. \nThe YWAW team donated clothes\, food stuff and beverages to the elated oldies. \nTestimonials\nOne after the other\, the elderly ones appreciated the team and admonish us to keep up with the good work\, and serve God and humanity with our youthfulness. The oldest among the elders sang beautiful songs and admonished us to inculcate a life of love and reverential fear for God.

SUMMARY:A Visit to the Children Correctional Home
DESCRIPTION:The theme of the event titled “The Winning spirit”\, was expressed in a compelling story told by our amiable guest\, Aunty Ayobami. The kids were held spellbound as they listened to the personal experience of our guest who narrates how she overcame the pains and regrets of rape and sexual abuse at the age of 15.  \nWe also featured comedy-drama\, and the kids entertained us with inspiring songs and playlets. It was a beautiful day at the secluded facility in Idi-araba Lagos which houses over 200 children under the care and guardians of well-trained teachers. \n\nTestimonials:\n“I now understand what it means to have a purpose in life\, and how to achieve one’s goals even in the worst circumstances. I hope to give back to the society when I have grown up and re-integrated into the society.” -Paulina

SUMMARY:Visit to the Autistic Home
DESCRIPTION:Established in 1960\, by Late Mrs. Modupe Cole\, it has since 1980 been adopted and funded by the government\, with supports and donations from NGOs\, families and individuals. \n\nTestimonials\n“The presence of the YWAW team brought a special  and unique aura to our home\, and this is seen in the friendliness and warmness displayed by the children\, as they hung around the team and never wished they leave. We usually have visitors come and donate gifts but rarely do we have people spending quality time to relate with the kids as the YWAW team. We are very grateful for your gifts\, and we hope to see you around soon.” – Coordinator
